reFuel 2003 (November 18th, 2003) reFuel 2003 (November 18th, 2003)
refuel is a new events organised by Leeds Media to promote the Leed's expanding media and communications industry. refuel provided media and marketing professionals with new ideas and insights into how the industry is set to change. Bill Gash, of Partners in Television, set out an array of interactive advertising opportunities But just as this market takes shape we have the prospect of "self scheduling" through personal video recorders (PVRs) such as Sky+. Sky is spending £20m in a current advertising campaign to drive take up and aims to convert 1 in 5 of its 7m subscribers in the UK to Sky+ by 2005. Self scheduling - allowing viewers to exercise greater control over when they watch programmes will impact the advertising business, where even interactive ads rely on control resting with the broadcaster. New advertising models are required to counter this shift in control and capitalise on the viewers desire the be able to access TV programmes "on demand". Coming to a screen near you - TV over broadband internet. With forecasts for UK take up set to reach 5m in 2004 and intense competition among ISPs such as BT Yahoo!, AOL, Tiscali and many more, it will be exclusive audio and video content, available on demand, that will make broadband attractive to new subscribers. A warning for the advertising industry - "you ain't seen nothin' yet!" You can download Bill's presentation here.
